Berger’s Aim For Top Spot

Heidelberg United can cement a top two spot with a Mother’s Day win over a struggling St Albans this Sunday. The ‘Bergers will be pushing for a positive result to consolidate their current unbeaten run in the NPL, as we rapidly approach the half way point in this season.

The ‘Bergers will come up against a team that has seen an alarming drop off in form in recent times – with St Albans having failed to score in its past five matches, slumping to successive defeats and conceding 17 goals in the process.

Heidelberg comes into the game on the back of a stirring come from behind 2-1 away win at Dandenong Thunder. Fetahagic equalized early in the second half, with Ninkovic coming off the bench to net the winner in a repeat effort earlier in the season at Green Gully.

The form guide would suggest a ‘Berger victory. However, this may be one of the challenges facing this developing team – how to handle the expectations. With the likely return to the fray of Reuben Way, and the midweek return of the “Little Cat” Andrew Cartanos to the club (re-signed after a stint at NPL-3 club, Nunawading City), Heidelberg would expect to be holding down a top two spot after Round 11 this weekend.

PLEASE NOTE: The revised kick off time for the match this Sunday (May 9) at the Olympic Village is at 3:00 PM.
