The ‘Bergers emerge with tight victory

The Heidelberg United senior women are out on a mission this season. In a tight Round 3 battle with FV Emerging in NPL Victoria, the Warriors came through with a 1-0 win to continue their positive start to the campaign.

The ‘Bergers headed to Knox Regional Football Centre in a home game that presented the first opportunity to see how they could respond to a setback.

Despite losing 2-1 to Alamein FC the week previous, the Warriors were able to take the same momentum out of that contest and come out with a fast start.

This paid dividends as the reward came early in the piece from Emily Roach, nailing an unstoppable strike into the top corner as she burst into the penalty area.

The Warriors stood firm for the rest of the game, backed by a sturdy defence that last week welcomed the presence of Isabella Wallhead and the experience of Melissa Maizels into the fold.

Not giving an inch, the Warriors would be delighted with an opening clean sheet of the 2022 season, hopefully a sign that there will be more on the way.

With two wins out of three to begin proceedings, it’s a great form line to build the campaign around. A great opportunity awaits in the league to see how much the women have progressed as they head to Keilor Park Recreation Reserve to take on Calder United on Saturday April 23.

Before then, there is also a big Nike F.C. Cup tie against Preston Lions, with that clash held on Wednesday night at City Vista Pavilion & Sports Field.
