Bergers gear up for Women’s Football Round

This week marks the nation-wide initiative of Female Football Week, celebrating the contributions from women and girls across the game.

Heidelberg United Women will look to keep up their winning streak, backing up fresh from a strong 3-0 win over arch rival South Melbourne in Round 5.

With Round 6 for the NPL Women’s league underway, a strong and confident Heidelberg United outfit takes on Box Hill United for their first match up in season 2022 against another old rival.

Captain Steph Galea, who has made a great start to 2022, including a double last week, referenced the depth in quality across the team that has translated onto the scoreboard this season.

“We’ve really come together as a squad. The unity of this group is really special and I think that reflects on our results,” she said.

Returning to Catalina Street, Galea feels that the home game will offer a chance for the second placed Bergers to eye off taking the top spot on the NPLW Ladder.

“We’ve had a good record against Box Hill, so we’re looking to build on top of that, continue on our run and push for that top spot on the table.”

Box Hill United will bring forward a challenge at Olympic Park with the confidence of their first win for the season after beating Senior NTC 5-0 in the last round.

The United Women will host the Saturday May 7 afternoon clash at the Olympic Village, kicking off at 3:00pm.
