Heidelberg United’s most successful skipper has called time on his 10 year career at the club. The stylish defender has captained the club to three successive Premiers’ Plate trophies (2017-2019), a National NPL Final Win in 2017, its first ever Dockerty Cup Final triumph (2017), the FV Community Shield (2018), and the 2018 Victorian NPL Grand Final triumph.
The 35-year old veteran of 225 games first joined Heidelberg United in 2010, spending two seasons at the club before returning mid-way through 2013 in a second stint to help the team gain promotion to the Victorian NPL in its inaugural season of 2014.
He has led the ‘Bergers throughout its six seasons in the NPL with distinction and boldness, driving the team to become the most successful in the Victorian NPL. Throughout his captaincy the club has finished in third spot or higher on the NPL table, a tribute to the consistently high levels of performance.
His absence from the heart of the Heidelberg defence, along with his leadership capabilities will leave big shoes to fill at Catalina Street. The Heidelberg United family salutes his enormous contribution to the club and pays tribute to the club’s most successful captain in its history – seven titles in the last three years is a wonderful legacy for Luke Byles bow out on at Heidelberg United.
The club wishes Luke all the best in his future endeavours in both football and life. He will always be part of the Heidelberg United F.C Family. Well played Skipper!
