Can Bergers Kick Start Campaign?

by John Fotinos

Whilst it’s not crunch time just yet, it’s not been an auspicious start to the 2023 season for Heidelberg United. George Katsakis’ team has just one goal and one point from its first three games ahead of a tough few weeks, starting with this Friday night’s game against the reigning NPL Grand Final winner of 2022. The visiting Oakleigh Cannons return to the Olympic Village for the first time since the 5-0 title deciding win over South Melbourne last September.

For Heidelberg’s part, it will be hopeful of repeating last season’s double in the regular season, but will have to be at its very best, and with a slew of injuries, the task will be all the more difficult against a confident Oakleigh outfit. If it’s anything like the thrilling Elimination Final of 2022, which ended 3-3 after extra time & won by Oakleigh on penalties, then we’re in for a cracking encounter.

The match kicks off at 8:30pm this Friday (March 10) at Catalina Street headquarters.
