Following the completion of the senior women’s game between Alamein FC and Heidelberg United, new signing Isabella Wallhead spoke to HUFC Media about her club debut.
Wallhead recently joined United after the conclusion of the A-League Women season, where she has plied her trade for the past three seasons as a defender at Perth Glory.
She has also been part of the Junior Matilda’s squad, where she represented Australia at the 2019 AFC Championship held in Thailand.
“Heidelberg is amazing,” Wallhead said, when asked how she was settling in at Catalina Street.
“They’ve treated me really well and it’s one big family – I’m feeling very welcomed.”
Despite going down narrowly to Alamein 2-1, the defender enjoyed the chance to play alongside her new teammates.
“The girls played well in the second half especially where scored a good goal in the second half,” she said.
“I’m just proud of the girls and the fact that we continued to play our best and ended up with the goal.”
Wallhead completed the full 90 minutes this game, signifying she’ll be a staple in the line up for the remainder of the season and becomes a crucial cog in the backline.
She looks forward to adapting further under head coach Johno Clemente.
“I feel positive, next match we’ll take it as it is and just keep moving forward – playing how we did and building for the next game,” Wallhead said.
“The girls were amazing with welcoming me in. I think I fit in pretty well, and it’s just great playing with the girls.”
Wallhead and the senior women’s squad will take on FV Emerging on Saturday April 16 at 3pm when they play a home game at Knox Regional Football Centre in Round 3 of NPLW.
