Heidelberg United FC is the new home of Liverpool-born central midfielder Brian Summerskill. The 180cm tall 30-year old joins the club ahead of the much anticipated 2022 NPL Victoria competition from Caroline Springs George Cross, where he spent the last two (Covid-affected) seasons.
Summerskill was a member of the Crewe Alexandra Youth Academy in his native England during his formative playing days. He has plied his trade in the English Conference League with spells at Altrincham, Stalybride Cetlic, Northwich Victoria, Glossop North, New Saints and Trafford FC. At one stage in the early 2010’s, he was on the books of English Championship Two club Wrexham FC.
Having left the grey skies of England in 2018 for the warmer climate down under, the versatile Summerskill landed at Moreland FC before his stint at Caroline Springs. He’s ready to step up into the role as a pivotal midfielder at the NPL level for the ‘Bergers in 2022,
“From what I’ve seen (of the NPL) in my time here, it’s a pretty good standard of play. There are a lot of good players (in the NPL) that are capable of playing at an even higher level.”
After two seasons of Victorian football abruptly curtailed by the pandemic, Summerskill is keen to show his wares.
“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to get out and play competitive football again. It’s exciting to be joining a big club that’s had a lot of success in recent seasons. I’m hoping that it’s my time to add some more of that type of history to the club. I’m really keen to get together with the team over the coming weeks and work towards our goals for 2022”
