NPLM Preview & Analysis: Heidelberg vs St Albans

After a frustrating loss to Altona Magic in Round 6, the Heidelberg United senior men’s team will be looking to bounce back against St Albans Saints this weekend at Olympic Park in NPLM Victoria.

The contest between the two looks to be tight as there is only one point between them on the NPLM ladder.

The St Albans Saints are coming into round 7 off the back of three consecutive NPLM losses to South Melbourne, Bentleigh Greens, and most recently the Melbourne Knights.

In the off-season, St Albans have made a number of signings from internal promotions to various other avenues.

The most notable of their new signings is Breno Naranjo Guerrini, a 26-year-old centre-forward who previously played in Liga 1 in Peru for Deportivo Municipal before joining St Albans as a free agent. Guerrini made 11 appearances in Liga 1 but did not score any goals for the side that finished seventh on the table.

The Saints have also promoted their former Under 21’s player Ivan Razumic to their senior’s team this season, who scored a total of seven goals in his 18 appearances, during last year’s reduced season. Razumic may well be one to watch out for on the Saints’ attacking wings come Sunday.

Other players that have been promoted from their Under 21’s team include defenders Steven Razov and Monty Kristovskis as well as midfielder Luca Toro.

The last time the two teams went head-to-head was in round 11 of the ultimately abandoned 2021 season that resulted in a 1-1 draw.
