Heidelberg United secured their second win of the 2022 NPL men’s season in Round 5 clash against Melbourne Knights, with Sean Ellis a key influence scoring two goals.
A huge result away has given the Warriors something to cheer about after a difficult start to the season, with as Ellis’ brace proved he was back to haunt the Knights at their stadium for the second year running.
Speaking post-match, Ellis shared how much he likes playing at Somers St, as last year he got the only goal of the game to defeat the recent opponents 1-0 – as a left footed strike came up clutch. He mentioned the brilliant overall performance that Heidelberg displayed.
“It was a very good game, l like coming here,” Ellis said.
“I scored last year as well which we won 1-0 – I wasn’t feeling like I would score again when I came here tonight.
“The team worked very hard and can’t ask much more than three points.”
The winger went on to talk about he is feeling physically after producing amazing back-to-back performances.
“Personally l am getting fitter every game, every week. I am starting to feel good and enjoy it, and with the way we have set up it’s really coming together,” he said.
Having not conceded a goal in the previous two games, the Warriors have improved all over the park, from the backline to the other end of the pitch by scoring six goals.
Considering the disappointing start the ‘Bergers made early on in the season, George Katsakis’ plans for the squad have gradually started to take shape. With this new crop of players, it can take time for the message to come across but it seems it has come sooner rather than later.
Ellis talked about the aim the head coach is building his team for the players to know their requirements on match day.
“Once you get a settled squad that is always the case, and everybody knows their job together so that has worked well,” he said.
Heidelberg United will go up against Geelong SC in Round 4 of the Australia Cup on Tuesday night at 7:30pm at Stead Park.
