The ‘Little Mexican’ re-signs for United

Adrian Zahra will continue as a Heidelberg United player in 2022 after re-signing as vice-captain for the senior men’s team.

After playing 14 of a possible 18 games last season in the vice-captaincy role, Zahra will look to carry on in the same vein as a regular starter to provide experience for a rebuilding Heidelberg outfit.

“I’m at the latter stages of my career so for me it’s all about passing on knowledge and experience,” he said.

“Hopefully these younger guys coming through the junior ranks can learn about our system, get a better understanding about it and know what to expect.

We’re hoping to be involved in the B-League in the next year or two and for some of these guys it’s about transitioning them and preparing them for when that stage comes.”

Zahra has played over 100 games for the Bergers – he hit the ton back in Round 3 of 2020 where he capped off a memorable day with a brace.

“I love the club, I’ve been part of it for the last six years – I can’t wait to get started and hopefully we can bring the fans some more success,” he said.
