Following the Clubs successful first two years, “Alexander the Great” applied to the Victorian Amateur Soccer Football Association (VASFA) and was admitted to the Provisional League in September 1959.

During its inaugural appearance in the provisional league competition, “Alexander the Great” were declared the undisputed champions of the league in 1960, easily winning 34 points and scoring 113 goals.

With its successful appearance in competitive soccer, the club received an additional boost in the following years (1961-1963), winning all league competitions and climbing to the State League in 1964. However over the next few years, the Club struggled to consolidate its position in the State League and was relegated twice. It was promoted again to the State League in 1969 where it survived the transition and became a leading force in Victorian football from then on.
