Heidelberg United is through to Round 6 of the Australia Cup after comfortably easing past State League 1 outfit Hampton East Brighton at the Olympic Village.
An early Ryan McGowan strike gave the Bergers the lead, but a resolute defensive effort by the visitors limited the damage to 1-0 at halftime, despite the wave of attacks and numerous attempts on goal by Heidelberg.
The visitors’ resistance was broken in the second half with goals to Chok Dau and a penalty conversion by Bul Juach sealing a regulation 3-0 win.
In truth, it might have been a more emphatic final result, with Chok Dau hitting the bar from a second Heidelberg spot kick & Juach blasting a point blank effort overcoming the bar.
Heidelberg’s attention reverts back to NPL action this Friday night to round out the midpoint of the season, hosting Port Melbourne – and looking to extend its winning streak to nine games.
