‘Bergers Cup Run Rolls On

Heidelberg United is one more Cup win away from a spot in the Final 32 of the b

The Round 6 match was the second meeting in four days between the sides, with the ‘Bergers on top from the outset, determined to dominate the team that had held it to a draw in the NPL competition last Sunday.

Defender Deion Nikolaidis had a hand in all four Heidelberg goals, with Sean Ellis netting twice in the first half, with Adrian Zahra coming on during the second half to add a third. Nicholas Olsen topped off a strong performance by scoring the fourth with the last kick of the match, with Heidelberg now through to Round 7 of the Dockerty / Australia Cup – joining all the other top five sides in the NPL competition through to that phase.

Celebrating his 100th senior appearance for the club, defender Ajdin Fetahagic said he’s relishing the new partnership with fellow centre half Ben Collins, saying:

“We like to play out from the back, play under pressure, and as a ball playing centre half, that’s the style of play I prefer.”

Coach John Anastasiadis was pleased with the response following the draw against the same opponent at the weekend:

“We saw a team today that wants to play good football, and when you do that, you get rewarded, and the boys got rewarded with a 4-0 win.”

Looking ahead to the big clash against Oakleigh on Sunday (at Jack Edwards Reserve at 3:00pm), Anastasiadis said the team will approach the game as it does other games, looking to maintain its positive style of the 2024 season.
