Football Victoria (FV) have announced the National Premier League Team of the Season, for both Men’s and Women’s competitions. Across both respective teams, a pair of Warriors were amongst the best across the competitions best in Season 2024.
NPL – Women’s
Midfield powerhouse Sarah O’Donoghue was featured in the starting XI, with Keely Lockhart named as an additional striker.
Our NPLW Number #9 stated reflected upon the season that was, conceding it was one not without its difficult moments.
“I feel very grateful and appreciative for this achievement. It’s been a rough road for myself at the club having been here four seasons now and only making my mark now.
Something clicked in me this season and I had my passion back for the game that I’ve loved since I was 4 years old. I couldn’t have done it without the girls, they are all truly amazing and everyone fought for one another to the very end.
I’ve got to thank the coaching stuff and all the support staff that helped me along the way this season. I know I was a nightmare for Anthony with having so many concussions… sorry mate”.
NPL – Men’s
Our very own force field in-between the sticks, Yaren Sozer was joined in the starting XI by another Warrior relatively new to the club. Centre-Back Benjamin Collins completing the duo of Bergers in the Men’s Team.
A man of many words, Yaren showcased his admiration for his nomination.
“Absolutely delighted to have been voted in the NPL Victoria Team of the season. Although the season did not end how we had hoped, it’s nice to receive some individual recognition for the hard work put in throughout the season.
Major thankyou to all my team mates and coaches, specifically to the goalkeeper union. Brody Crane and Ryan Govan being by my side and supporting me throughout.”
Furthermore Sozer finalised his statement with quite the ominous message in relation to next seasons NPLM Competition.
“I may never let go of my wrath, my anger, but I will always have the last laugh”. #BaliBOG
Additionally Benjamin also showed praise towards his selection while foreshadowing his aspirations with the men’s side in season 2025.
“It is a great privilege to have been selected in the 2024 NPL Men’s Team of the Season. Thank you to all my teammates, coaches, and supporters who showed great support throughout the season and allowed not only myself, but many other players to feel comfortable and thrive.
It’s always nice to be recognised for individual achievements, however, we didn’t achieve what we wanted to as a team. I’m sure next year we will grow as a group and have an even stronger year in 2025!”.
We had reached out to Sarah O’Donoghue who hadn’t responded. We wish Sarah all the best for the upcoming Ninja A-League Women’s Season.
