New coach John Anastasiadis’ tenure has got off to a winning start at Paisley Park. The match showcased Heidelberg’s superiority from start to finish. The game began with a shot at goal by Josh Pin, but the Altona Magic keeper made a fantastic save, setting the tone for game.
A sublime finish on the half hour mark by midfielder Asahi Yokokawa ensured all three points for the ‘Bergers over Altona Magic.
Yokokawa was one of several off season signings to impress in their first official outing for the club.
The single goal margin perhaps flattered the home side, with Heidelberg United enjoying the lion’s share of possession & creating a half dozen good chances during the match that on most occasions would lead to a comfortable victory
Most notably in the first half, any number of players might have been in the scoreboard, with Sheppard, Ellis, Aidara & another new face in Leo Mazis all unable to find the back of the net.
With the benefit of being more fluid in an attacking sense, it was another recruited player, Nicholas Olsen, on as a second half substitute, who spurned a great opportunity to seal the win.
With another new signing, Ben Collins, leading the defence & new goalkeeper Yaren Sozer, the ‘Begers kept a clean sheet – and a well deserved three points.
Heidelberg’s blistering start to the season is a promising sign for their fans, as they look forward to more thrilling matches in the future.
