Heidelberg Continue To Improve

by Angela Irwin

The Heidelberg United women’s football team is on an upward trajectory under the guidance of their new coach, Sven Samild. With a recent victory against Bentleigh Greens, the team has made significant strides towards securing a place in the finals. This achievement was further magnified by the celebration of captain Steph Galea’s 150th league game, marking a special milestone for the team.

The addition of new players has injected fresh energy into the 2024 campaign, sparking renewed confidence and determination among the squad. With two recent wins under their belt, Heidelberg United is steadily making its mark and quietly positioning itself for a coveted spot in the top 5, which would secure their entry into the playoffs.

Looking ahead, the team faces a challenging encounter as they prepare to clash with Preston Lions at BT Conner Reserve. This upcoming match will serve as a litmus test, gauging the extent of Heidelberg United’s progress and improvement. Currently placed 7th on the ladder, a victory against the formidable Preston Lions, who hold the second position, would be a significant leap towards solidifying their position in the finals.
