Measure of Success

by Alan Ions

History is often seen as a guide, a clock that helps us gauge the progression and results. In the case of our beloved club, if we were to measure its progress from the year 2023, it has undoubtedly exceeded the expectations of most pundits and supporters alike. The team’s accomplishments and performances have been remarkable.

To truly comprehend how far this team can go, we must take a trip back in time to the year 1969. It was during this period that a mighty force known as Alexander dominated the league, sitting comfortably at the top of the ladder and appearing invincible. Today, we can draw parallels between that legendary team and the current one.

Under the guidance of coach John Anastasiadis, our team has remained undefeated. This achievement is reminiscent of the 1969 squad, which also managed to maintain an unbeaten record after twelve rounds. The similarities extend beyond just the points accumulated; the goal difference is eerily similar as well.

After 12 Rounds

1969  W 10 D 2 L 0 – GD 22 Ladder Pos # 1

2024  W 7 D 5 L 0 – GD 19 Ladder Pos # 2

However, we must not let these comparisons lull us into a false sense of security. Tonight’s match against Dandenong City will be far from easy. Dandenong will be rallying after last weeks loss to Port Melbourne and we cannot afford to underestimate them.

Tonight, the journey continues. Tonight, our team takes another step towards greatness. Let’s rally behind them and show the world what our club is capable of.

Kick off: 7:45pm
