After Playing a victorious Midweek Nike Cup Quarter Final vs. Manningham Blues the Bergers backed up against a rejuvenated FV Academy side who came to the Village after Nil All Match vs. the Second Placed South Melbourne last week.
Caitlin Karic made her starting debut and Aeryn Tarrant returned to the starting line up after being managed due to loads. Anastasia Kyriacou replaced Ruby Samild in the Squad with the latter in Kenya.
The Match started with the FV Academy being pressed in their own half with some quality midfield work by the irrepressible Molly Burke.
After some solid Goal Keeping from FVA’s Charlotte Hrehoresin repelling many chances by the ladders leaders. Sarah O’Donoghue scored after 24 minutes.
Karic, Tamar Levin, Asuka Miyata and Burke gave Sawa Matsuda and O’Donoghue some splendid service and O’Donoghue doubled the lead after 40 minutes.
As the half came to a close an extremely unfortunate Own Goal came from a Burke clearance that cannoned into the back of Maia Heysen’s calf that eluded Mia Bailey.
So half time it was 2 – 1 and the Match had given both Coaches an opportunity to plan for a positive result! FV Academy continued to press hard and in the a blink of an eye with excellent inter play had Emily Rutkowski on the end of a wonderful cross and the scores were 2 – 2.
Heidelberg United and FVA made numerous changes which injected run and opportunity into the match, Caitlin Karic scored a cracking goal after some wonderful Team Football and at 63 minutes it had the Bergers up 3 – 2.
More substitutions by both Teams had the Bergers creating chances but were thwarted by the FVA Goal Keeper Hrehoresin until the Bronte Peel fresh off a Nike Cup Goal Midweek finished the Match with a sharp chance.
A 4 – 2 win and the Girls from the Village are now 8 points clear on Top of the NPLW Ladder with an exciting Fixture next week taking on the second placed South Melbourne at Lakeside on Saturday.
